A casino evening with culinary delights at Blumenstein Castle

Extended evenings of gambling at which the participants were spoilt with exquisite amuse bouches were a very popular form of evening entertainment in 18th century high society. The court of the French ambassador in Solothurn was known far and wide for such evenings of gambling. But cards were also played almost daily in the parlours of Solothurn families.Experience such a game evening in the rooms of Blumenstein Castle as it was 300 years ago.

At the beginning of the evening, you will be given tokens made of permut or bone to use at the gaming tables. Play a pure game of chance at the Pharaon tables, which requires no special previous knowledge. Pharaon is therefore comparable to roulette, which is played in today’s casinos.

Or sit down at a gaming table and play whist, hombre or tarot with us using historical cards and the rules of the time. If you are not yet familiar with these games, sit down anyway and we will be happy to show you how it’s done.

If you prefer to watch, that’s no problem either. It is also very entertaining to cheer along with the players without playing yourself.

Throughout the evening, you can treat yourself to savoury or sweet amuse bouches, which will be freshly prepared by la Signora Gabriela – La cuisinière du Château (ToscanaSquisita) in the castle’s kitchen using original 18th century recipes.
